Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty (Eye Surgery) can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure under local/IV sedation.

Aging changes around the eyes are often the first facial cosmetic concern of patients in their 40’s and 50’s. Redundant skin in the upper eyelids and shadows around the lower eyelids which result from the herniation of eyelid fat create “bags” give the eyes a tired, aged look.

Correction of the periorbital aging changes by Blepharoplasty can be very rewarding. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and sedation as a simple outpatient surgery. Some minimal post-operative bruising and swelling is to be expected but recovery is usually very rapid and uneventful.

Blepharoplasty also can be combined with other facial cosmetic procedures to address additional areas of concern. Combined procedures such as Browlift to correct descending eyebrows and facelift procedures to correct skin laxity are often performed together.
