Patients often consider breast augmentation to correct a life long problem with volume inadequacy in their breasts or to correct changes that occur with pregnancy and childbirth. It is very important that every patient’s clinical situation and requests for improvement be individually evaluated.
The choice of the correct breast implant size and shape, the most appropriate surgical approach and the need for any additional procedures are very important in helping assure the best possible surgical result.
“In my practice, I spend a lot of time listening to my patients’ desires and concerns. My greatest desire is to help patients achieve their goals. I feel this can be achieved if the patient and surgeon work together to make the important choices related to this surgery. The added self confidence that patients can derive from an excellent breast augmentation result is always very gratifying to the patient and her surgeon.”

“One of our happiest groups of patients is our breast reduction patients. Patients with excessively full breasts have often suffered for many years with neck, back and shoulder discomfort. Many patients have frequent headaches due to muscle spasms and are severely limited with physical activity.”
This surgery has been proven to be of tremendous medical benefit to patients suffering from these pain symptoms. Now through the incorporation of many new surgical principles, the procedure can consistently deliver a breast that is much more youthful and cosmetically appealing in appearance.

Often patients need more than a simple breast augmentation to correct the changes seen with pregnancy and aging. A lift or mastopexy procedure often combined with a breast augmentation is the procedure of choice. This procedure surgically lifts and tightens the breasts, creating a more youthful and ideal contour. Frequently, a breast augmentation is also performed with the mastopexy to add fullness and projection.
Dr. Burkett is able to offer patient the choice of saline filled breast implants or the new Memory Gel silicone breast implants, recently fully approved by the FDA.
Many patients present with a desire to improve the appearance of their abdomen. Problems with abdominal contour frequently result from weight gain or loss and childbirth. Usually, these problems are the result of three factors: excess skin, excess fat and poor muscle tone of the abdominal wall.
Abdominoplasty is the surgical correction of these problems. The procedure often involves the use of a lower abdominal incision that can often be the extension of a previous cesarean section scar. Through this incision, muscle laxity is tightened and excess skin and fat is removed.
In many cases, an abdominoplasty can be performed as an outpatient surgical procedure with a 23-hour observation period. Patients are often able to return to work activities that require little physical exertion within a two to three week period.

The body lift is performed to remove excess skin and sometimes also fat from the torso and upper legs. It is a complicated procedure that can take three to seven hours under general anesthesia and involves a difficult recovery period of four to six weeks, but it offers an improvement in appearance for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight due to childbearing, diet, exercise or bariatric surgery, or who have loose, inelastic skin for other reasons. The procedure is often combined with others such as breastlifts, facelifts and armlifts to retain a proper body proportion.
Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. The procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure under local/IV sedation.
After substantial weight gain, weight loss, or simply from the effects of aging, skin on the upper arms can become inelastic, loose and flabby. Arm lifts, also known as brachioplasty, remove that excess skin and fat. Patients who have significant amounts of fat may want to consider combining the procedure with liposuction.

This term implies a more advanced concept than simple liposuction or removing fat. Body Contouring involves the use of all of the tools at the plastic surgeon’s disposal to obtain the desired improvement of problem areas. This often involves a combined approach using procedures such as, liposuction, fat grafting, abdominoplasty, mastopexy (breast lift), and breast augmentation to achieve the desired goals. The correct combination of procedures in individually chosen for each patient during consultation.
