 A native of Southern Mississippi, graduated with special distinction from Mississippi State University in 1977. He attended the University of Mississippi Medical School, graduating in 1981. A residency in general surgery was completed through Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan in 1986. Further training in plastic and reconstructive surgery was completed through residency at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Burkett has been in private practice in the DFW Metroplex for over 20 years. He is a member of the active staff of Methodist Hospitals of Dallas, North Texas Surgery Center, Mansfield Surgery Center and Surgery Center of Duncanville.
